Will Your Truck Fit My Driveway?

This is the question we get most after price, especially from folks with a tight driveway, a shared one, or a spot around back. Here's exactly how much room we need, so you can look at your own driveway and know before you book.

How Much Room Does a Dumpster Actually Need?

A spot about 10 to 11 feet wide and 22 or more feet long, with clear space above.

The dumpster itself is 7.5 feet wide and 14 feet long (a 25-yard is 16 feet). For a straight-line delivery, you want at least a foot of clearance on each side, which puts you around 10 to 11 feet of width. For length, you need the 14 feet of the box plus room for the truck to set it down and for the door on the end to swing open, so figure about 22 feet or more. And because the truck lifts and tilts the container to place it, the spot has to be clear overhead too, watch for low power lines and tree branches.

Will It Damage My Driveway?

No. We place it deliberately and set it down gently, never drag it.

This is the concern we take most seriously, because it's a steel box sitting on your concrete. Our drivers place the dumpster deliberately and set it down gently instead of dragging it, and that careful set-down is what protects a driveway. Dragging does the damage, and we don't do it; the other thing that does is uneven ground, where the loaded bin's rails press only on the high spots. Pick the flattest spot you have. If you want extra peace of mind on nice concrete or blacktop, or the spot isn't level, we offer optional ground-protection boards for ten dollars, and on a stone or gravel driveway there's no need for them at all.

What About a Tight or Shared Driveway?

Often doable, tell us the width and approach and we'll tell you the truth.

A narrow or shared driveway trips a lot of people up, but it frequently still works if there's about 10 to 11 feet of width and a clear, mostly straight way in. Here's the honest part: we usually can't send someone out just to eyeball it first. What we can do is have you tell us the driveway width and describe the approach, and we'll tell you straight whether the truck and dumpster will fit before we ever roll a truck. We'd much rather figure that out on the phone than have a driver show up to a spot that won't work.

Can You Put It in My Backyard?

Maybe, but our trucks are big and need firm, clear access.

Backyards are where we have to be honest. Our trucks are large and not very nimble, and the loaded weight is real, so a soft lawn, a steep grade, or a tight turn around the side of the house is often a no. If there's a wide, firm, mostly level path back there, it can work. Tell us what the approach looks like and we'll give you a real answer rather than a maybe.
